Want an easy bed time??
**Disclaimer ** it is just my experience and how we did it!
And not to tell you how to parent because nobody needs that!!
These are my top tips to transition your baby/ toddler from a cot to a bed!
- Get them involved
Encourage the child they are now big, let them come a choose a new bed spread and feel special.
- Have a routine
Have a clear bed time routine.
Both of my children know what happens when it is bed time.
Children like knowing what’s going to happened next! We brush our teeth, read a book together and then its time to get into bed.
- Be strong!!
Now nobody told you it would be easy, but consistency is key, if you want bed time to be at 7pm stick to it. If the child decided to get out of bed, tell them its bed time and pop them back in the bed. ( You may do this 10 times) it will get easier!!
My children share a bed room so when it came to transitioning Laurie I was worried he would annoy his sister… he didn’t disappoint!!
The first week every night he would get up climb into Elle’s bed and try to get her up. I felt terrible as she would get upset and I really thought id made the wrong decision.
But I kept my cool and would just go in the first time and say ‘its bed time’ id lift him up and place him back into bed, he would moan and then do it again. Any time he got up after the first time I wouldn’t speak to him, just pop him back into bed. As a result of this Laurie now sleeps no problem.
- Talk to others
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, see what others are doing!
